MG in Switzerland 2026: Prices, Warranty, Homologation
On paper, MG is the car brand that a Swiss buyer already knows: founded in England in 1924, it now belongs to SAIC Motor, a Chinese group. It is also, on the 2025 figures, the best-established Chinese brand on the Swiss market: a 1.7% market share, ahead of BYD (0.7%) and Leapmotor (0.4%). As with the other brands of Chinese design, the Swiss advantage lies first of all in the customs regime: since the end of 2024 the European Union has applied a countervailing duty of 35.3% to models of the SAIC group (MG included), which Switzerland does not do (details below). Here is the exact state of play for MG in Switzerland — range, prices, warranty, network — with the supporting sources.
MG at a glance
MG (Morris Garages) was founded in the United Kingdom in 1924; the brand's headquarters are now split between Shanghai and London, under the ownership of SAIC Motor, the Chinese car group that bought the brand. This is a structural difference from most of the other Chinese brands present in Switzerland: the name is familiar, the shareholding is Chinese — a point of reference that may reassure some buyers who are still hesitant about “Chinese brands” in general.
In Switzerland, MG is distributed by MG Motor Switzerland and a network of authorised garages, whereas BYD runs its own subsidiary. As of 31 October 2026, the official locator on mgmotor.ch shows 30 points of sale in Switzerland; our guides to the points of sale in French-speaking and German-speaking Switzerland list them by region.
The 15 MG models sold in Switzerland and their prices
As of 31 October 2026, the SinoDrive catalogue lists 15 MG models sold in Switzerland, taken from mgmotor.ch: seven electric, three hybrid, two plug-in hybrid and three petrol. The cheapest is the MG3, at CHF 16'490; the cheapest electric model is the MG4 EV Urban, at CHF 21'990; the IM5 has the longest range in the line-up, 655 km WLTP, from CHF 41'990.
Prices are the "from" list prices published by MG Motor Switzerland, excluding temporary promotions, which may show a lower price at the time of purchase. Range is shown only for electric models whose WLTP figure is in our catalogue.

Warranty and reliability
Warranty periods vary by brand, model and component (vehicle, battery, motor): check them with the importer before buying. For MG, they are set out in the MG Motor Switzerland contract in force. On safety, the models sold in Switzerland are homologated to the safety requirements of European type approval; Euro NCAP results, where they exist, can be consulted model by model on euroncap.com.
No single period applies to the whole range: the exact conditions (duration, mileage, what is covered, transferability on resale) must be checked against the MG contract in force at the time of purchase, via the brand page of the site or directly on mgmotor.ch — never on the basis of the dealership sales pitch alone.
Homologation and customs: the Swiss advantage for MG
The main difference from the European Union is customs, and it is particularly pronounced for MG. Since 30 October 2024, the European Union has applied specific countervailing duties to electric vehicles made in China: +17% for BYD, +18.8% for Geely, and up to +35.3% for the brands of the SAIC group — MG included — the highest rate of all the Chinese manufacturers concerned, on top of the basic customs duty of 10% already in force on all imported vehicles.
Switzerland, outside the European Union and linked to China by a free trade agreement since 2014, does not take part in this mechanism. Since 1 January 2024, Switzerland has abolished customs duties on industrial products, cars included; it does, however, apply to electric vehicles an automobile tax of 4% on the import price, as well as VAT of 8.1%. The European Union applies an ordinary customs duty of 10% to Chinese battery-electric vehicles, to which are added countervailing duties ranging from about 7.8% to 35.3% depending on the manufacturer (implementing regulation (EU) 2024/2754). For SAIC (MG), the countervailing duty is 35.3%. This customs regime — and not a difference in technical specification — is one of the things that set the Swiss market apart from the European market for these models. On the technical side, the MGs sold in Switzerland are homologated for Europe, with a CCS charging socket (the European standard) and an interface in French, German or Italian — they are not re-imported “China-spec” vehicles.
After-sales service: the official network
Servicing, parts and warranty claims go through the brand's official Swiss network, attached to MG Motor Switzerland (mgmotor.ch). As with every Chinese brand on SinoDrive, this network is distinct from parallel imports: authorised garage, test drives, delivery and warranty are handled by a professional business based in Switzerland.
As of 31 October 2026, the locator on mgmotor.ch counts 30 points of sale and 23 service points in Switzerland. The network changes over the months: before buying, check the nearest garage on that locator or on SinoDrive's MG brand page.
MG, the best-established Chinese brand in Switzerland
On the Swiss market in 2025 (a depressed overall market, around 234'000 new vehicles), Chinese brands accounted for about 3.1% of registrations, or nearly 7'200 vehicles. Within that total, MG had the highest share among the brands followed in our market study: 1.7%, ahead of BYD (0.7%, the brand having only launched in Switzerland in April 2025) and Leapmotor (0.4%).
This position is part of a broader European trend: MG sold around 304'000 vehicles in Europe in 2025, up 26% year on year — notable growth, although slower than BYD's over the same period (+278%, but from a much lower base). A study cited by the Swiss Marketplace Group also notes that searches for “MG” have doubled on AutoScout24.ch, a sign of growing interest among Swiss buyers, with unaided awareness of the brand measured at 32% (against 42% for BYD and 50% for Polestar in the same study).
Frequently asked questions
Are the MGs sold in Switzerland reliable? The models sold here benefit from full European homologation. MG belongs to SAIC Motor, a group that sells several hundred thousand vehicles a year in Europe (around 304'000 in 2025). Warranty periods vary by model and component (vehicle, battery, motor): check them with MG Motor Switzerland before buying, as well as the Euro NCAP results for the model you are interested in.
What will my MG be worth when I resell it? There is as yet no reliable, published Swiss track record on the depreciation of used MGs: the Swiss market for Chinese brands is too recent (less than two years of dense history) to put a figure on it. The favourable factors that can be identified are a possible transferability of the warranty to the second owner (to be confirmed in the contract) and strongly growing European demand for Chinese brands (+90% sales in Europe in 2025) — positive signs, not a quantified promise of residual value.
Is the Swiss customs regime more favourable than the EU's for MG? On import duties, yes: the European Union applies to models of the SAIC group a countervailing duty of 35.3% on top of the ordinary duty of 10%, whereas Switzerland abolished its industrial customs duties in 2024 (it does, however, levy the 4% automobile tax and 8.1% VAT). That is not enough to say what price you will pay: always compare written offers.
